Joy to the world: holiday cards for 'any soldier' -
After the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the anthrax attacks, the Pentagon required that mail addressed to "any soldier" be returned to the sender, leaving Americans without a way to send mail to soldiers whose names they didn't know.

But for a second year, an American Red Cross program is allowing the public to send holiday greeting cards that aren't addressed to a particular soldier. The cards will be screened, sorted and distributed to military hospitals and bases nationally and overseas in time for the holidays.

You can find more information or send a card here.

Sesame Street's Planning for emergencies for ages 3 – 5 -
Sesame StreetWe have a great program for Planning for emergencies for ages 3 – 5. It is made by Sesame Street and each kit includes a DVD, A Parent/Caregiver Magazine, and a Children’s Activity Book.

The program teaches children and parents the importance of being ready in case of an emergency. It talks about knowing first and last names for the child as well as their parent’s first and last names; their address and phone number. It also teaches the child who are safe people in the community that can help in case of an emergency. They teach how to make a family emergency kit to be completed as a family working together.

These kits are available by calling or stopping by the Washington County Red Cross
